T.
K. and Deidrea Lauxs were overjoyed to be having their first child. But their excitement soon turned to devastation when, early on in the pregnancy, the doctor gave them some awful news.
Thomas was diagnosed with a chromosomal condition called Trisomy 13 that typically causes physical abnormalities and mental disabilities. The doctors told the Lauxs that their baby boy would live a very limited number of days—or even hours—after birth.

They deliver the baby, then take him home to cherish every single precious moment with him. Knowing that Thomas would soon be gone, the Lauxs are thankful even for the five days they spent with him.
“In some ways, Thomas is fortunate because he won’t experience a broken heart… The only thing Thomas will ever know of this world is love,” says Deidrea.
On July 4, 2008, baby Thomas passed away.

Today T.K. and Deidrea are the proud parents of a healthy little girl named Isabella.
They hope their story can somehow help others suffering with the pain of losing a child — even just to let them know they aren’t alone, when it can feel like the end of the world.
