Two high school sweethearts lost their lives while on the way to prom just moments before the highly anticipated event.
18-year-old Kalen Hart and her boyfriend, Lendon Byram, were ecstatic about going to prom together when they got involved in a horrific car crash on Saturday night.
According to the reports, the Indiana students were on the way to Hamilton Heights High School to attend Kalen’s prom when another vehicle crashed into them in Arcadia.
Following the collision, both Kalen and Lendon, who was driving the car at the time of the crash, were pronounced dead. Two other students who rode the car with the pair were hospitalized after suffering non-life-threatening injuries.
Meanwhile, the driver of the SUV that crashed into the couple’s Mazda declined medical treatment. The driver was reportedly also a high school student.
Though the investigation is still ongoing, the authorities have confirmed that it doesn’t look like drugs or alcohol played a role in the deadly car accident.
After the tragic news, Kalen’s heartbroken mom, Jody Bartrom Conaway, spoke out and shared her grief in a touching Facebook post.
“I didn’t even get to see my baby girl in her prom dress. I love you so much, Kalen Rae! I am so proud of the young woman you were becoming. Rest easy my baby girl,” she wrote.
In an interview with WTHR, the mother also said her daughter was adored by many people as she branded her boyfriend “sweet and respectful.”
“I really felt like he was one of the best things that ever happened to Kalen for a while… We will miss him at our house. We will miss him,” Jody added.
Our thoughts are with the friends and families of Kalen and Lendon during these challenging times.
