An elderly couple of 50 years has decided to take their own lives in accordance with their ‘Romeo and Juliet’ pact because they wanted to pass away at the same time.

90-year-old Ida Platt and her 89-year-old husband Geoffrey had been plotting to die together in their own terms after realizing they wanted “to walk through the pearly gates of heaven together.”

While the partners have both overdosed on one tragic night, Geoffrey was devastated after surviving the suicide attempt and has hanged himself months later to join his wife.

According to the family, the couple were a perfect match, whereas Geoffrey was “passionate and opinionated” while Ida was “intelligent, artistic and creative.”

After spending decades traveling the world together, Ida’s health began deteriorating and her husband felt responsible for making her feel better.

“Geoff had a mission in life and it was to keep Ida alive. He was trying to turn back the clock and make her well again,” Niece Janet said.

In order to go out in their own terms, the couple has forged a Romeo and Juliet inspired pact whereas they decided to overdose together.

After the couple was found unresponsive, they were taken to the hospital where Ida was allegedly angry because they hadn’t died as they planned.

Six days later, however, her condition deteriorated and the woman passed away, leaving her husband behind.

Months after Geoffrey was discharged from the hospital, he hanged himself in the same apartment where he made a pact with his wife to join her in the afterlife.
