Couple Threw Away Boxes Containing £15,000 In Cash At The Recycling Centre


A couple from Burnham-on-Sea accidentally threw away £15,000 in cash at the Recycle for Bathnes depot in Midsomer Norton.

Workers at the site were searching for an electrical cable when they found the box with the money. They alerted Avon and Somerset Police who then tracked down the couple.

The couple, who had thrown out boxes for recycling at the Recycle for Bathnes depot in Midsomer Norton, were identified by their car.

When police asked them about the money, they said that they were helping clear the house of a relative who recently passed away.

They said the relative would hide money in unusual places and when they dropped off the boxes at the Recycle for Bathnes depot in Midsomer Norton, they had no idea one of the boxes contained £15,000 in cash.

The police returned the money to the couple and praised the workers at the recycling centre who found the money and alerted them. The police said without them, the family would never have known about the money.

They also praised the people who helped them track down the couple because of them, they were able to return the money to the couple.

Avon and Somerset Police wrote on Facebook : “We would like to say a big thank you to the staff at the recycling centre. Without their diligent attitude, integrity and assistance, the family would never have known about the money found, and we would not have been able to return it to them, especially in time for Christmas.”

The couple is now happy they got the money just in time for Christmas. They thanked the workers at the recycling centre for helping the police return the money.
