An elderly couple from New Zealand was left devastated and heartbroken after returning to their home only to discover that the tenants have turned their backyard into a dumping ground with the mess lying all around.
75-year-old Piki Parker and 82-year-old Mohi Te Purei Parker were forced to pay to have piles of waste left behind by reckless tenants removed from their own backyard in Levin, New Zealand.
According to the couple, they had been living at their 3-bedroom house for over two decades. Recently, however, they decided to rent it out and move to Porirua.
Thinking that their property was left in good hands, the couple was shocked to see waste taking over the insides as well as the outsides of their home.
Besides leaving the couple with the mess they produced, the tenants also refused to pay over $3,000 in rent money.
“It’s just not fair. We didn’t deserve this,” Piki expressed in an interview with the New Zealand Herald.
As the 75-year-old added, the tenant had been working as a lawnmower during his 8-month stay at the Parkers’ home. In addition to trashing the property with non-bio waste, the tenant was also spreading green waste all over the backyard.
Fortunately for the couple, kind neighbors agreed to help them clean the house and its surroundings so that they could move back in.
Piki and Mohi also agreed never to rent out their home again after what they have witnessed.
