Two cousins who believed each other to have passed away during the holocaust have been reunited in a sweet reunion after 75 years apart.
85-year-old Simon Mairowitz and his cousin, 87-year-old Morris Sana, had no choice but to flee their native Romania when the Nazis invaded them back in the early 1940s.
For decades after the escape, the cousins have thought each other to have died in a concentration camp as they were unable to find each other.
Miraculously, the cousins were reunited 75 years later with the help of their respective families and the power of social media.
As their family members found out, they were both still alive and going and they didn’t have a second doubt when it came to arranging a heart-wracking reunion.
“Seventy-five years you waited. It’s a long time. But we’ve got each other now,” Simon told his cousin when the two saw each other after nearly a century.
Following the sweet reunion, Leetal Ofer, Morris’ granddaughter, shared her video on Facebook and wrote:
“This is one of the most moving things I’ve ever seen and I’d love to share it with you. My mom recently found some of her long lost cousins on Facebook. To make a long story short…
“My grandfather couldn’t find his cousin and best friend after the Holocaust and was sure that he was killed at the concentration camps. He hasn’t seen or heard from his cousin in 75 years. We were able to arrange for the cousins to meet today.
“The war tore so many families apart and to bring them together in Israel is so magical.”
