Simon Cowell, the TV personality who gained great popularity by being a brutally painful judge on shows such as “America’s Got Talent” and “American Ido”, is going through a back surgery after he sustained a severe injury on his back following a bike accident.
Page Six and other media sources reported that the 60 year old Cowell was injured near him home in Malibu, California. He is said to have been rushed to a hospital immediately following the accident.
Sources who are familiar with the accident said that it happened while Cowell was testing out a new electric bike he got. Apparently, he somehow fell off while he was testing out his newest gadget in his backyard – the specifics of the accident has not been disclosed yet.
One of the representatives hired by the TV personality and entrepreneur confirmed that the accident did in fact take place, saying that Cowell broke his neck and will be going through surgery on Saturday night. The rep also said that Cowell was with his family when the accident happened.
As the entire state of California is under lockdown following orders from California governor Gavin Newsom, it is not surprising that the whole family was together with the record executive when he hurt his neck.
It is likely that there were three other people who were staying with Cowell in the house. Lauren Silverman, his girlfriend of 7 years, and their 6 year old son Eric was likely accompanied by 14 year old Adam, a son Cowell had from a previous relationship.
Cowell has been an avid supporter for biking in the past. In media interviews, the British celebrity said he lost around 60 pounds of weight by following his fitness program which centered around biking.
Previously, Cowell had stated that he has been faring well as he stayed under lockdown. In fact, he said he had a healthier lifestyle under quarantine, adding that he was actually caring much more about his diet when he had no business appearing in front of a camera.
The exact degree of the injury is not clear, and Cowell has not made an announcement regarding the exact status of his health as of this time.
