Comedian and Cowell’s fellow judge on the popular show told reporters that Cowell’s injury was something that no one could have foreseen. Mandel added that the accident did bring many question marks as to whether the talent show could return to air.

However, Mandel said that he was happy to share with the press that his good friend has been recovering smoothly. It is said that Cowell is already walking around, which must be good news for all his fans who worried about serious repercussions that could follow spinal injuries.

The star of “Deal or No Deal” said that everyone involved was greatly worried about their friend and boss, and have been delighted to know that the 60 year old British music producer and TV personality is doing well.

However, many still believe that it would be impossible for Cowell to return for this season’s episodes of “America’s Got Talent” due to the severity of the injury. It has been reported that the surgery took around 6 hours to finish.

Mandel acknowledged the possibility, but also added that he wouldn’t bet on Cowell missing out on the entire season. This may be press stunt to keep viewers interested for a show that lost one of its most iconic figures, but it could be a genuine assessment as a friend and colleague.

The accident took place in Cowell’s house, where he was showing his new electric bike to his two sons. It has been said that the bike suddenly shifted weight to one tire, throwing Cowell off the bike and on to the ground.

It has also been reported that the accident could have been much more dangerous – media reports say that had the injury shifted just an inch, it may have cut Cowell’s spine and thus possibly cause paralysis.

The famously cynical Cowell jokingly tweeted that everyone make sure to read the manual before hopping on an electric bike. The particular bike has been banned in the open streets in the UK because of its power.
