Critics have gone on blasting criminal experts for stating how the term looting is associated with races and ethnicities and for that reason, Americans should avoid using the term for the recent large-scale thefts in California.
Local media reports have spoken about how critics are completely puzzled with the terminology being associated with the word looting and how they believe no one in the country needs any justification or explanation regarding that word.
While it is still not clear who these ‘experts’ are but it is very mind-boggling for so many that they are being barred from using the term looting for the tragic and infuriating large-scale thefts taking place in California.
“People do not need any help in understanding what looting means,” they claim. But that’s only when the experts went on about how the California Penal Code was not allowing them to use looting for theft incidents that include large groups of people.
Moreover, they felt strongly about how the definition did not much the current scenario that has been defined by the law. In the same way, it also cited how two experts would go on about the term having to do with people of color.
“Looting is theft or burglary that occurs in a state of emergency, or a local emergency, or even an evacuation order that occurs during earthquakes, floods, fires, riots, or some other natural or manmade disaster.
On the other hand, one veteran police officer spoke about how the word can well be used in the context of a racial lens.
“Looting occurs when people of color are involved or even when urban dwellers are doing something.
For that reason, we tend not to use that term often as we’re not sure what the real identities are of those behind the recent thefts in California.”
