A giant cruise ship was caught on camera passing through a narrow canal and breaking the record by becoming the largest vessel to ever pass through the Corinth Canal.

The Corinth Canal is located in Greece and measures 24 meters in width at the narrowest point. Meanwhile, the ship belonging to Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines measures a staggering 22.5 meters in width.

While it surely wasn’t easy to navigate the vessel through the narrow canal, it must have all been worth it not only because they broke the record but because it made their 929 passengers gasp in amazement.

The cruise ship, named Braemar, departed from Southampton back on September 27. The vessel weighs over 24,000 tons and is almost 196 meters long.

Luckily, it managed to squeeze through the narrow canal while getting caught on camera in the process.

“This is such an exciting sailing and tremendous milestone in Fred. Olsen’s 171-year history, and we are thrilled to have been able to share it with our guests,” one of Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines’ directors, Clare Ward, said.

“At Fred. Olsen, we strive to create memories that last a lifetime, and with guests on board Braemar able to get so close to the edges of the Corinth Canal that they could almost touch the sides, we know that this will be a holiday that they will never forget.

“We have already had exceptionally high interest in our second Corinth Canal cruise, in Spring 2021, and we can’t wait to do it all over again!”

Needless to say, social media users were more than impressed by the stunt after the photos went viral.
