A controversial cult leader who claims to have superpowers, including the ability to change the weather, has amassed thousands of followers and spoken out about his teachings.
Bentinho Massaro is a controversial 30-year-old with over 300,000 Facebook likes and 30,000 loyal Instagram followers.
Despite his strong social media presence, however, the young guru has been accused of running a cult linked to sleeping with students, verbal abuse, and the suicide of his follower.
“I do not consider my group as a cult, if by cult you mean some dysfunctional group of people completely under the spell of a manipulative leader,” the Dutch said in an interview with Barcroft Media.
“But if you mean cult in terms of a culture, then yes, of course, because anything is a cult. Like politics is a cult. The people that attend a Michael Jackson concert are a cult. The people that talk about aliens are a cult. There are cults all over the place and we accept them all the time.”
After successfully kickstarting his career as a guru, the 30-year-old has set up ‘Trinfinity Academy’ in an attempt to teach his followers how to ‘master their life’ and ‘realize their freedom.’
Speaking of the allegations of verbal abuse of his followers, Massaro added that he uses an ancient technique referred to as the Zen Slap to get his point across.
“I have not verbally abused my students. The western minds don’t really appreciate or understand it, but if you look at the eastern tradition, the Buddhist traditions, the famous Zen Slap, if you will, is spiritual teaching,” he claimed.
“Because the ego of the student is so tenacious that sometimes the archetypal master will have to smack the archetypal student in the face with a strong statement or a word to sort of shake them up and wake them up.
“It’s not a form of abuse, because the people will sign up to be there, they want to be there, they want that reflection.”
Earlier this year, Massaro, who has traveled Asia to learn more about the Buddhist Dzogchen tradition and the philosophy of Advaita Vedanta, has hit the headlines after organizing a retreat which was attended by 400 of his followers.
While many choose to mock him, Massaro maintains that one of his strongest features are his telekinetic powers.
“Just some tin foil that I could spin on a table. At some point, I rolled a pen across the table and that’s when I thought, ‘Okay! This is enough. I don’t have to practice it anymore. I have proven it to myself,’” he said.
After allegedly mastering the ability to move things with his mind, the 30-year-old scaled up a bit and decided to control the weather.
“I have had over 95% success with this one in particular. All you do is you just visualize the end result and you finish it up with the feeling of confidence in that reality,” he claimed.
