People have been slamming a “reckless” cyclist over footage that shows him riding his bicycle while holding a small child in one arm and with both of them without helmets.
The clip was taken in Bristol city center along a narrow street.

As they cycle through the car-lined street, the child is totally calm and unfazed by the danger it’s in. The pair seem to have had a narrow escape as a silver Honda was observed pulling out of a parking slot just as the man on the bicycle passes it.
The pair had matching orange jackets and the child looked to be about three years old.
An eyewitness said: “The question is why? Why would you put your child in danger? Imagine if he was involved in an accident.”
He added that it should be compulsory for all cyclists to wear helmets.
“When my son was 14, he was cycling home from school and he came off his bike, cracking his helmet.
“That could have been his skull. That’s why I am always like, ‘Wear a helmet for God’s sake.'”
Nicholas Foxwell posted on Facebook: “As a keen cyclist, I can hand on heart say that man should be in serious trouble for endangering a child and cycling without due care and attention.
“It’s people like this that give us cyclist a bad name.”
Terry Nichols added: “What an irresponsible pillock. He should be prosecuted for dangerous riding and endangering the life of a minor.”
Twitter user Red68 wrote: “Incidents like this one make my blood boil – but very regrettably are typical of the uncaring, dangerous and often ‘couldn’t give a d*mn’ cycling community in Bristol.
“Please someone in Authority take some strong and appropriate action to bring these ne’er do wells under control.”
While wearing a helmet is not mandatory for cyclists, the Road Traffic Act makes it illegal to have a passenger on a bike unless it has been adapted of specially designed to carry passengers.
Jon Usher, of cycling charity Sustrans, explained that cargo cycles, family cycles, or cycles fitted with a child seat are legal.
It is the responsibility of parents to ensure their children “are safe and feel safe when they are cycling together.”
Sustrans also said that helmets “don’t prevent collisions” and that a safe cycling network should be instituted.
Based on the video footage, the bike and cyclist failed to meet any of the best practices mentioned earlier although the incident was not reported to the police.
