When Larry Sumpter and Tawnya Ford discovered that their daughter, Madelynn, helped sneak boys into a sleepover party, they gave her two choices.
Either two weeks without a phone and her parents will take over her social media or one month without her device. Madelynn chose the first option – only two weeks, right?
But the high school sophomore immediately regretted her decision when her dad started sharing photos and videos on her Instagram and TikTok accounts.
Her mom, Tawnya Ford, told Today: “After the first day, Madelynn was like, ‘I changed my mind, I choose the one month.
“Larry told her, ‘No. I’m too invested. I have too many ideas. We’re sticking with the two weeks.’ He’s loving it. I think he’s gonna make his own TikTok account when this over.”
The mother laughed and said: “We’re always down to embarrass our kids!”
As soon as Maddie got her phone back, she shared an innocent picture of her as a toddler and wrote: “I’m back sweeter than ever and ready to make good choices.”
One of her followers replied: “Call me crazy, but your dad made cooler posts.” Many people agreed!
One internet user commented: “I think its great, it gives a perspective of how ridiculous so many of the posts on social media can be and perhaps you don’t need to spend all of your time on it. Kudos to the parents for their imagination.”
Another wrote: “This, to me, was a good idea to make her think about the consequences of her actions. He gave her the choice of to options. She might have felt a little embarrassed but he didn’t humiliate her on her social media. It was all good clean fun. I loved it.”
A third added: “Oh my, I cracked up on this and almost fell of my chair at work. I love that guy!!!!!”
