Learning that one is going to be a parent is both one of the most exciting and frightening moments in one’s life. It’s exciting because you and your partner are responsible for creating a new life and bringing it into the world. It’s also frightening because almost every parent wants to be the best parent out there and want to do right by their kid but are nervously wondering if they can pull it off.
And competing with all these thoughts and emotions is planning out everything that the baby will need once it arrives. Of course, a large part of this is determined by the gender of the child because one must make sure the clothes, furniture, and toys are gender-specific.
Then again, there are parents who don’t want to know the gender of the baby in advance. For them, it’s enough to know that the baby is healthy and whole and only finding out the gender once the baby is delivered just opens up opportunities for adventure.
That being said, it’s impossible not to develop a certain preference for the child’s gender.point 90 | While there are cultures that place more importance on specific genders, for example in India and China where male children are preferred, even in more developed nations there are always individual preferences.point 269 |
Sometimes, the couple will keep having children until the child with the preferred gender is born.point 83 | That’s why you sometimes have large families of all boys and only one girl or the opposite.point 164 | 1
For dad Kennedy Zarour, from Waldwick, New Jersey, he’s always wanted to have a boy. After already having had five girls with his wife Natalie, it’s understandable why he’d want a boy this time. Having had five girls made it easier to re-use their baby stuff but Kennedy wanted someone to carry on the family name.
That’s why when Natalie was having a c-section, she was filming how her husband would react. That’s because she was delivering a boy this time.
And Kennedy just couldn’t hide the joy and excitement that he felt on learning that he was going to get the boy he always desired. It’s also easy to imagine that Natalie must have felt relieved at that because that’s a lot of tries to finally get the boy they wanted!
Either way, it was an exciting moment for the parents and the joy still would’ve been there even if the baby had turned out to be a girl.
