When a father from Wales got sick of his 8-year-old’s repeated calls to bring water and drinks while the boy played PlayStation, he came up with a hilariously brilliant idea.
The 33-year-old is now breaking the internet for all the right reasons.
Kristian Wilkes says he got fed up of running up and down the house to bring drinks to his son, Logan, while the little guy played video games with his friends.
So, Kristian decided to buy a rabbit water bottle and attach it to Logan’s bed frame as a prank.
Little did he know that something which started as a trivial joke would become a brilliant idea praised by millions across the globe.
“It was more of a joke – but now I think it’s the best money I ever spent!” Kristian said.
“I was fed up of him shouting down for a drink. When he’s online gaming, he of course can’t leave his bedroom,” the father, from Ebbw Vale, Wales, added.
“He only plays on it for a few hours a night, but when he is, he’s constantly banging or shouting down for a drink.
“Then when he has one, he spills them.
“I joked that I’d get him a hamster bottle, so he didn’t need to bother me. Then when we were out the other day I found a large one – probably for a rabbit.
“He came in and I’d stuck it to the side of his bunk-bed, so when he lies down in bed he only needs to turn his head for a drink.
“He didn’t even notice, and he lay there for 20 minutes. Then he shouted down, ‘Dad, why have I got a gerbil bottle on the side of my bed?'”
The 33-year-old says his idea soon turned out to be a practical one when Logan started using the bottle that night.
“He used it that night as well,” Kristian added. “It was great. I didn’t have to be up and down the stairs getting him drinks.
“I did it as a joke – I don’t want people to think I’m a pushover or anything. I just did it for a laugh to poke fun at him. But a lot people have been saying what a great idea it was.
“I’ve said to his mother I’m going to get him one of those hats with the straws wrapped round them. It’s a good idea and he doesn’t have to leave his game.
“I’ve got a four-year-old daughter too and she’s really demanding, so it’s a bit of a nightmare when I’m trying to sort her out and he’s shouting for a drink.
“I’ve had to ban him from taking cups up there because obviously I’ll find them under his bed and all over the place.”
Kristian says his idea got widespread recognition, adding how he is thinking to buy another rabbit bottle and attach it to his own bed.
“Logan’s friends have seen the funny side and he’s enjoying the attention now. Even some of their parents have commented what a great idea it is,” he said.
“I’ve not had any negative comments – everyone I’ve spoken to seems to be giving the idea a thought. It’s a great idea for hangovers too – I might fit one next to my bed as well.”
