Christmas is not just about receiving gifts or treating yourself to that item you’ve been eyeing on Amazon for the past year.
It’s also about giving and no other gift means more than helping charities stay afloat.
By their very nature, charity organizations are non-profit and that means they need to rely on the goodwill of people to keep doing the good work. But that doesn’t mean that they can’t get creative with their fundraising efforts and one charity named Lucky Bulldogs Rescue did exactly that with their 2020 calendar called “Dad Bods & Rescue Dogs.”
It’s an unconventional yet adorable calendar that was shot by board member and volunteer Lyndsey Wright.
Lyndsey explained, “A handful of people were throwing around fundraising ideas and I said I could shoot a calendar (I’m a full time Newborn and Family photographer). Someone mentioned something about dad bods and another Board Member (Founder, Stacy Perkins) said Dad Bods & Rescue Dogs and I was instantly sold on the idea!”
Of course, she had to find the right models to fit with the calendar’s theme but that wasn’t difficult.
“I made a post on my personal Facebook page telling people what we were doing because I knew I had some friends who would be great for this project. One of the models is a photography client. I mentioned during their session if he’d be willing to model and we did it right then and there, after their family photos!” she said.
Once the photos came out and were shared on the Internet, people couldn’t get enough of them.
“Most people absolutely love it and think it’s hilarious, which was absolutely the point!” Lyndsey said.
As to why they chose “dad” bods instead of “mom” bods, she said, “Some have made comments about why we don’t include ‘Mom Bods,’ but that answer is pretty simple in my opinion… This calendar is about the dogs; the Dad Bods are just included to make it comical and unique.point 441 |
I can’t imagine a Mom Bods & Rescue Dogs calendar would be very well received by the public.point 81 | This was just a bunch of regular guys who are friends or clients of mine who were up for poking a little fun at themselves and helping me out for a good cause.point 208 |
It wasn’t meant to be a body positivity thing, it was meant to be a dog thing with a funny twist.point 79 | ”point 82 | 1
More than 550 calendars have already been sold with each copy pegged at $20 or $25 depending on size. All of the proceeds will go to the animal rescue.
Aside from the calendars, they also have other goodies prepared.
“Along with other items we have for sale in the shop, it has brought in over $4,200 for the rescue! We are currently the top calendar when sorted by ‘most popular,’ which is pretty exciting!”
