A 26-year-old dad from Kansas passed away after saving a stranger from drowning.
A woman was swimming in the Elk River in Missouri when she was swept under water. Farley didn’t think twice when he jumped into the water to help the drowning stranger, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
The Noel Fire Department arrived and managed to rescue the woman with a rope. Unfortunately, the young father drowned and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Miami County Republic identified the woman as Madison Capps. She said she and Farley spent around 30 minutes trying to stay afloat before help was able to reach them.
“I felt his hand on my back as I tried to get on my floatie after going under,” she expressed. “Just having him be there next to me meant a lot. Without him there, I don’t think I would have been able to hold on as long as I did.”
Capps also wrote on Facebook: “I will never forget the sacrifice you made. May your soul Rest In Peace.”
A GoFundMe page set up to help the family with funeral expenses revealed that Farley was a father to a 3-year-old boy. The page read: “He didn’t think twice about jumping in to save a complete stranger. He is a true hero and died saving someone else’s life with no regard for his own.”
Remaining funds left after funeral expenses will be placed into a trust fund for the child’s education.
“Jacob as selfless and brave and he lived his life the same way he lost it,” the page added. “Helping others.”
