The Butlin’s staff tried to humiliate a dad of two who had gone to the place to enjoy on a water slide.
Ian Coates, 48, went to the facility along with his 11-year-old son and as he was waiting on the slide, the camp’s lifeguards told him that he is not allowed to go inside the pool with his colostomy bag.
Thereafter, a conversation ensued between him and the guards and the guards eventually made him wait at the entrance for over half an hour.
It was only after Ian took to social media that they allowed him in. But after that episode, Butlin has been at the receiving end as people have come out in large numbers on the social media in favor of Ian.
Finally, Butlin had to apologize – The social media backlash that Butlin received after the incident made it apologize to the dad and his family.
They also announced that they are soliciting advice from various charities on dealing with similar types of situations. However, Ian felt quite humiliated through the whole episode as he was barred from the pool in front of other visitors.
He has been living with the disease for over nine years now and the guards said that he couldn’t go inside the pool with his stoma on.
However, a lady joined ranks with her and defended by saying that even her son had a stoma and he was allowed in the pool.
But when the guards didn’t budge, she offered to take Ian’s son with her so that the child could at least enjoy himself.
The staffs seemed to be unsure of their own rules – After waiting for ten minutes, Ian decided to meet the manager of the site so that it could be resolved by him.
Even though he met the manager, initially, he kept on insisting and apologizing that Ian couldn’t go inside the pool.
But later on, Butlin had to retract from it and issue an official statement stating that due to their mistake, such an incident happened and that they were reviewing their team’s training and seeking advice from charities.
