If two people committing their lives to each other is not momentous, then nothing is.
Some weddings last days, such as in India, while in others, a simple ceremony among close family and friends is enough. But whether the ceremony is simple or extravagant, the sacredness of what happened is never in doubt.
A lot of symbolism and tradition are attached to the wedding precisely because it’s supposed to be one of the major turning points in one’s life. Most people just see the celebrations but these two people each have a personal history, formerly separate but now a future will be forged together. As a parent, one cannot help but be both happy and sad that one’s child has finally made such a big step.
In every wedding, the father is expected to walk his daughter down the aisle and give her away. He is also expected to have a dance with her before she moves over to dance with the new man in her life, her husband.
For one dad, his daughter’s wedding was especially significant because he had recorded himself dancing every year with her since she was a baby. To now dance with her on her wedding day must have filled him both with joy and pain at the same time. His baby girl is now grown up and has a life of her own!
