K. Rowling, the author of Harry Potter novels, confirmed what her favorite fan theory is and gave the story’s loyal fans a glimpse of hope that their beloved dark theory involving Severus, Harry, and Dumbledore might be true.

While there are plenty of hidden meanings and symbols that the books and movies offer, fans have come up with many interesting theories over the years.

One haunting, yet cool, theory revolves around the headmaster of Hogwarts. Not only does Rowling approve of this theory but she also considers it her favorite.

The theory revolves around the Tale of Three Brothers which is first introduced in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.

In the legend, three wizarding brothers came across a dangerous river and used their wands to build a bridge that would allow them to cross the river safely.

Before they could cross, however, death showed up and appeared displeased and ‘cheated’ by the brothers. The cloaked figure then pretended to be impressed by the Wizards’ magic and offered them any prize they could think of.

The first brother, who was thirsty for power above anything else, wished for a wand “more powerful than any other” which death forged out of a nearby Elder Tree.

The second brother, who was grieving the death of his loved one, requested a resurrection stone that would allow him to bring the dead back to life.

The third brother, who was the most humble of all three, was convinced that death had an ulterior motive which is why he wished for an item that would allow him to stay invisible from everyone, including death itself.

According to the fan theory, power-thirsty Lord Voldemort represents the first brother while Severus Snape, who has an undying love for late Lily Potter, represents the second brother.

Both brothers in the tale died, one from murder and one from suicide, while the third brother continued hiding from death and lived a long life. Harry Potter, who inherited the invisibility cloak, represents the third brother.

If we accept these prepositions, the only person who could represent death is Professor Dumbledore.

He is the only one who had all three Deathly Hallows in his possession, though at different times, and was the one to hand over the invisibility cloak to Harry saying it was his father’s wish.

Additionally, Harry Potter was greeted by Dumbledore (Death?) after getting hit by a killing curse for the second time when fighting Voldemort in the forest. During that moment, Dumbledore referred to Harry as an “old friend.”
