A daughter has revealed how she can’t bring herself to forgive her mother even more than a decade after she married her ex and had a baby with him.
As 34-year-old England-based Lauren Wall explained, she married an airport employee named Paul back in 2006.
Seemingly supportive of their relationship, Lauren’s mum, Julie, helped the couple pay for the wedding. In exchange, the lovebirds took now-53-year-old Julie with them on their honeymoon.
Just weeks after the two-week vacation, however, Paul left Lauren after having an affair with her mother who gave birth to his baby nine months later.
“Paul always got on really well with mum. I never thought it strange though, as she was his mum-in-law and he was just being friendly,” Lauren said according to The Daily Mail.
“They’d laugh a lot together. I didn’t think to be worried at all. Who would? I couldn’t wait to settle into marriage but the ink was barely dry on our certificate when Paul changed.”
Soon enough, Paul’s attitude towards his wife changed, prompting Lauren to check his texts and discover a secret conversation between him and her mom.
After the man moved out of Lauren’s flat, he was taken in by mum Julie and the two started a relationship of their own.
“It was sick. It’s one of the worst things a mum can do to a daughter. Paul may have been a gutless groom but she’s my mum. She’s meant to love and protect me above all others,” the daughter added.
Lauren has also recalled the moment she saw her mother walking around with a baby bump only for the mum to deny being pregnant and blamed the bump on a cyst instead.
“When I saw her in the street and noticed she had a bump, my mind raced. She clutched her stomach and told me, ‘It’s a cyst.’ I felt so sick, I went home and destroyed all the photos of our wedding,” she added.
After several years passed and Lauren and Paul got divorced, Julie married her daughter’s ex. As the daughter revealed, she attended the wedding with a heavy heart.
“It was almost too much to bear but I did it for my daughter. I went to watch Mum marry the same man I’d wed five years earlier,” she expressed.
While her mother allegedly apologized and tried to fix their relationship, Lauren’s trust in people remains broken and she can’t bring herself to fully forgive her mum more than a decade later.
“Just because we spoke after doesn’t mean I’m over it. Paul never said sorry or tried to apologize to me,” Lauren added.
“Time is a great healer, and mum and I have tried to have a normal relationship. But we will never be as close as we were – and I’ll never fully trust her again.”
