After 35-year-old Mary Constant had a stroke, her five-year-old daughter Pryia saved her life.
Mary collapsed at her home in Cork, Ireland after suffering a stroke. Her five-year-old daughter Pryia Facetimed her dad Damien Galvin using her iPad while he was on his way to work.
She told her dad: “Mammy is on the floor and she can’t get up.”
Damien told Red FM that he usually doesn’t answer his phone while driving but decided to pick up that day.
He said: “I saw her name on the phone and just decided to pick up which I don’t usually do but I just had a feeling for some strange reason that I needed to answer the call.”
“She was crying and said that mammy was drinking her tea and now she was on the floor and can’t get up. I asked her what she meant and she just kept saying that mammy was on the floor and couldn’t get up.
The little girl then turned the camera and her dad could see her mother who was on the floor.
He added: “She turned the camera around so I could see her and that was when I could see that Mary was on the floor in the kitchen and she looked very distressed.”
Damien then called Mary’s sister and parents and called an ambulance. They rushed her to the hospital and the doctors told them that Mary’s life saved due to their daughter’s quick thinking.
Damien said: “An ambulance came within about 40 minutes and Mary was seen to within seconds when she got there and she had a scan and that is when we found out that she had a stroke. A clot had travelled to the left side of her brain and that side had completely shut down”.
“The surgeon told us that with a stroke time is precious and that without Priya, Mary wouldn’t be here today. She doesn’t even know it yet but she is an absolute hero.”
Pryia learned how to use FaceTime on her iPad just a few months ago to call her cousin and grandparents.
Damien praised his daughter for her heroic act and said he would never ask her to stop using her iPad as she saved her mother’s life.
He said: “I know we all give out to our kids about being on their tablets and all this kinda stuff but when it comes to this she saved her mother’s life so she can use it as much as she likes.”
“Mary is walking and talking. She is up and about and moving her hands. She is going down stairs and walking with me and her sister and her parents. Hopefully all going well she will be home by the weekend.”
