Daunte Wright’s family has spoken out and demanded a conviction following the death of the 20-year-old father.
Since the tragic Minnesota shooting on Sunday, Brooklyn Center Officer Kimberly Potter was fired, arrested, and charged with second-degree manslaughter for shooting dead Daunte Wright after allegedly pulling a gun on him by mistake.
Now, the young man’s family has called for the disgraced cop to face more serious charges and possibly a life sentence.
“Unfortunately, there’s never going to be justice for us. Justice isn’t even a word to me. I do want accountability,” Katie Wright, Daunte’s mother, said during a press conference.
Meanwhile, the 20-year-old’s aunt, Naisha Wright, called for a conviction as she appeared to dismiss the manslaughter charge as insufficient.
“Can we get a conviction? Can we get something? Manslaughter?” she said. Growing emotional, the aunt went on to show a photo of a taser saying “this is a taser, but no” before bringing up a photo of the handgun Potter used to kill Daunte. “My nephew was killed with this — a Glock,” she said.
Naisha went on to call for the 20-year-old’s killer to face life in prison for taking the young man away from them forever.
“My brother and my sister need this woman to be convicted. If we could have life, we want life. We gotta go life without him,” she added.
Following Daunte’s death, Potter was arrested and charged with second-degree manslaughter before being released after posting bond. If found guilty of the charge, Potter is facing up to ten years in prison.
