Daunte Wright’s girlfriend spoke out for the first time since her boyfriend was fatally shot by Officer Kimberly Potter.
Speaking to DailyMail reporters after attending a Brooklyn Center protest, 19-year-old Alayna recalled the Sunday shooting and revealed she was in the car with Daunte when the 20-year-old father was shot by Potter.
As she told the publication, she was the one who called her boyfriend’s mother, Katie Wright, to break the tragic news after the shooting. She also insisted she attended the protest in hopes of processing what happened to Daunte.
While Alayna admitted she was told by her lawyer not to talk about the shooting to the public, she insisted that Potter, who has since been fired and charged with second-degree manslaughter, “should know right from wrong.”
“Just that she should know right from wrong and she shouldn’t have been… I just want justice for him,” the 19-year-old told DailyMail reporters.
She went on to thank people who gathered to support the family saying she was determined to stay at the protest until the very end.
“Thank you to everyone for showing out. It means the world to me. I just want to thank everybody for their support, their love and everything,” she added.
The Minnesota protest comes shortly after Potter, who is a married mother-of-two, was charged with second-degree manslaughter. Following her arrest, the fired officer was booked into Hennepin County Jail before being released after posting bond.
During her first court appearance which took place via Zoom, Potter confirmed her name but did not yet enter a plea.
