Jessica Hayes, a proud mother of a 17-month-old girl, was left outraged after she picked up her daughter from a daycare center only to find that her shoes were taped tightly around her ankles.
After removing the tape, the mother discovered a series of bruises surrounding the girl’s swollen lower legs and ankles.
Following her frustrating discovery, the mother shared the incident online and slammed the daycare workers who were supposed to take care of her toddler.
“Yes, it does hurt and break trust when you put that trust into two individuals who have been with my daughter since she was 6 weeks old and come into her shoes being taped on to her as well as her ankles. This was left on long enough and tight enough to leave marks, cause swelling, and bruise,” the mother wrote.
Despite some parents criticizing Hayes’ decision to make the incident public, plenty of mothers supported her decision and shared their own unpleasant experiences.
As it happens, the same thing happened to Meghan Howlett Cheek’s toddler on the same day as it did to Hayes’ daughter.
Fortunately, both Cheek and Hayes soon got in touch with the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Day Care director, Maehsell Marley, who immediately fired the two daycare workers responsible for the toddlers’ bruises.
“Pleasant Hill Day Care in no way condones or allows any practice that would be harmful to a child. We have an outstanding group of caregivers who strive to meet the highest of expectations on a daily basis for the children in our care, and what occurred in the shoe-taping incident is not a representation of who we are,” he told a local news channel.
While this experience left her rather shaken, Hayes admitted that she’s always been pleased with the daycare center’s staff and services and that she wouldn’t let the actions of two individuals destroy her opinion of the institution.
“I sent my daughter to Pleasant Hill Day Care as I went there as a child and so did her father. This place helped raise both of us and most of the people are still there today. I appreciate all (the) staff (at) this daycare,” she said.
However, following the nasty stares that she received from other parents whose children are attending the daycare center after writing her Facebook post the mother is determined to find a new childcare center for her daughter to attend.
“…as for all the stares and bad looks I get from the parents with my child beside me, how immature and disrespectful can you be?” Hayes wrote.
“My child and I have never felt so unwelcome by ‘Christian people’ and this will be the reason my child gets removed once the opportunity arises.”
