With lockdowns in place in most parts of the world, a lot of people now have the time to binge-watch on Netflix.
But if you were worried that all you were going to get was re-runs because there’s hardly any studio that can continue filming during the pandemic, have no fear.
The Dead To Me Season 2 trailer just dropped and it’s absolutely glorious. Not only did Netflix release the trailer, they even announced when it was going to stream. May 8, to be exact.
In case you haven’t watched Dead To Me yet, it’s a dark comedy about two women who recently experienced loss and developed an unlikely friendship because of it. Jen (Christina Applegate) is a real estate agent mourning the loss of her husband in a hit-and-run incident. Judy (Linda Cardellini) is in grief over the death of her fiancé who died of a heart attack.
The two deal with their loss differently, with Judy keeping a positive outlook while Jen increasingly finding herself in a dark place. This leads to a plot twist at the end that is disturbing.
If you don’t want any Season 1 spoilers, you can leave off here.
The end of Season 1 saw Jen threatening to kill Judy if she showed her face to her again. This is because it turns out Judy was the one who killed Jen’s late husband, Ted, in the hit-and-run.
The trailer basically picks up where Season 1 ended with both of them standing over the body of Judy’s ex-fiancé after he was shot by Jen.
The 40-second clip basically recaps the last season while giving hints about what fans can expect to see in the new one.
One fan responded to the trailer by writing: “THIS IS A QUARANTINE MIRACLE.”
Another said: “Yes! Was just thinking of this show the other day and wondering if they had made the second season before lockdown. Can’t wait,” while a third added: “Can’t believe my queens are coming back to me in 28 days!!! missed them so much #deadtome.”
Writer Liz Feldman told Thrillist: “I always wanted to work in multi-cam, as a joke writer, but then, once I was in year seven or eight of that, I wanted to tell more serialized stories that could have depth and didn’t rely on laugh tracks.
“What you’re watching in Dead To Me is very much through my lens – how I approach life. I’m a comedian, so my way of handling grief and loss is to feel it and go through it, but also to find the moments that are funny.
“Inevitably, there’s something funny in almost every dark thing. If you can find a way to laugh at it, we all know that that helps. It’s my coping mechanism.”
