Mahlon Reyes, a Discovery Channel star that appeared in the reality show Deadliest Catch, died at the age of 38 according to his wife.
The death of the popular deckhand was revealed to TMZ by the young man’s wife who claimed that the 38-year-old passed away after suffering a “massive” heart attack.
According to TMZ, the deckhand, who worked on Cape Caution and Seabrooke, was rushed to a hospital on July 25 following a heart attack.
While the fisherman’s wife confirmed to TMZ that her husband had survived the ordeal, he had allegedly never regained consciousness and was eventually taken off life support. The official cause of death is yet to be revealed following his autopsy and toxicology report.
As the deckhand’s wife confirmed, Reyes died in his hometown of Whitefish, Montana, as he was surrounded by his loved ones.
According to TMZ, the entire family was left “shocked” by the sudden death of the 38-year-old who, to the knowledge of his family, didn’t suffer from underlying health conditions.
As Reyes’ wife revealed, she plans on honoring her deckhand husband by scattering a part of his ashes in the Bering Sea.
Following the tragic death of the Deadliest Catch star, Reyes’ fans and colleagues began posting tributes to the fisherman on social media.
“Family times. Laughing, crying and remembering our brother Mahlon Reyes of the Summer Bay,” Nick McGlashan, a fellow Deadliest Catch star, wrote in a tribute to Reyes as he shared a group photo.
In another post, McGlashan wrote: “This place misses you. RIP Mahlon.”
Reyes is survived by his wife and their four children.
May he rest in peace.
