A firefighter Spent 7 Hours To Film A Rare “Death stalker” Moulting


Gorden, who loves animals, has recently filmed a stunning scene, where a scorpion is shedding its exoskeleton.

Animal lover, Gorden Reilly, a 43 years old man, captured a rare and stunning time-lapse of a female scorpion “Deathstalker”.  This rare scene of shedding of the exoskeleton was captured when female scorpion emerged into the light in her new transformed look, where she discarded her old exoskeleton.

Gorden, who is a professional and trained scorpion keeper, currently living with over 120 creatures in his home, California, told that this may be the only existing time-lapse of a LeiurusJordanesis moulting.point 353 |

This species of scorpions are commonly known as “Deathstalker”, because of their toxicity.point 82 | As the name indicates how much toxic it can, so it is always advised to handle “Deathstalker” with care and if you are professionally trained.point 204 | 1

Gorden told that he strongly believes that it is one of the rarest videos of its own nature, as it may be the only moulting video of this rare species even in last 10 years. He said: “This species was a myth back in 2003”. And back then, there were only a few pictures available of this species worldwide.

He started taking care of scorpions and expressed himself as: “Moulting process is not usually observed by the keeper, let alone time lapsed.point 121 | Most of the keepers cannot even tell when moulting is going to happen and thinking of filming this process is the next step”.point 226 | 1

Filming the process of moulting was not that easy, as it took almost seven hours to shed her exoskeleton. It is not always that Gorden is there to observe moulting, but he was there to watch the entire process of moulting of this rare scorpion species. Gorden further said: “It was pretty amazing getting this on camera. People generally never see how interesting a lot of creatures are, even the obscure ones”.

As a keeper, one observes this process every day. But Gorden utilized this opportunity to show the world how small creatures transform during their lifespan. Moreover, it is also a learning experience for those who do not observe scorpions too closely.
