36-year-old Vincent Saubion was left requiring 50 stitches to his face after the deer he was targeting charged into him while attempting to escape.
The French hunter had to be airlifted to a hospital when the animal he was stalking ran into him in Lesperon, France.
The deer ripped a long flap of skin all along Vincent’s cheek across his nose and beneath his eye.
In an interview with local media, Vincent said he felt ‘drunk’ after the incident, adding: “It actually took half my face off.”
But despite significant blood loss and a large wound to his face, the 36-year-old said he still wanted to continue hunting with his pals. However, another hunter said he should refrain from his hobby.
His injures were so severe that he had to be airlifted to the hospital where he underwent emergency surgery. Fortunately, he didn’t suffer from any broken bones in his face.
“I feel as good as I can be,” he said to local reporters.
Despite the injury, Vincent said he will hunt again. “I am still crazy about hunting,” he expressed. “I have nothing but respect for the game and the owners who let us hunt on their grounds.”
One internet user commented: “I just can’t work up any sympathy for people whose enjoyment comes from killing helpless animals. No matter how pitiful he looks, people who get such a thrill out of killing creatures are demented and sick in the head.”
Another wrote: “Is the deer ok? Too bad they can’t hold guns, it would make the hunting more sporting.”
A third said: “When you mess with the deer, you might end up with the horns. No one feels sorry for the hunter and for good reason: he finds pleasure at the expense of another living thing and even more than that, by taking its life. So not cool! Can’t you play a VR hunting game or something? It won’t skewer your face into two pieces…or impale you on your next hunt.”
