Palomar Mountain Water delivery man, Marco Perea was making a delivery to an 88-year old woman Barbara White-Minischi.
He said he usually shouts, “This is Marco!” while making a delivery and Barbara always replies, “Polo!”
But, that day Barbara didn’t respond.
“I realized there was something wrong,” Perea told KNSD.
The door was locked so Perea couldn’t get into the apartment. He called the police.
She was then taken to the hospital and was treated for bumps and bruises.
Later, it turned out that Barbara had fallen and had no one to help her.
“When I heard his voice I was laying on the floor. I said, ‘Marco, get in here!’” Barbara said.
“I was flopping around there like a dead fish. I could not get up. I could not go anywhere. I couldn’t open the door. I could not do a damn thing except lay there and hurt and scream.”
“He was a lifesaver.” Barbara even called him a Hero.
“No, I don’t think I’m a hero. I just happened to be there at the right time, you know, and I like helping” Perea said.
“I kept knocking and she did not answer. Usually, on my deliveries I say, ‘hey, this is Marco oh-Polo,'” said Perea.
“I said, ‘are you okay?’ She said, ‘no, I think I fell down,'” he said.
Barbara’s granddaughter, Carrie White, said: “It is rare to find someone that genuine.”
