Deserted London Streets Amidst Coronavirus Outbreak


A bunch of eerie images popped up on the internet showing the popular London destinations.

These landmarks that were once jampacked with the public are completely abandoned as people are self-isolating, in order to slow the spread of novel coronavirus.

During the weekend, #desertedlondon become trending in the UK with people from different parts of the country sharing photos of empty streets, clear roads, and train stations.

Social media users began to compare the photos of empty streets to the ones that they have seen zombie flicks.

A user commented that the opening scene of the movie 28 Day Later is exactly the current situation of the UK. Many Twitter users responded to the pictures.

One user said that he has a mixed feeling after seeing the deserted pictures of London. While the empty streets of London are making him sad, the fact that people are staying inside and combating this deadly virus is making him happy.

Sophie Raworth, a BBC newsreader, shared a collection of pictures with a caption that says she has been coming to work through eerily deserted streets in London. And she at times just stone and listen, but there is nothing – no people, no planes, and no virtual traffic.

The UK residents are asked to self-isolate themselves inside their homes, and only go outside to buy essentials, medical needs, exercise once a day, to help needy, or to and from work.

Additionally, Boris Johnson, the Prime Minister of London, has also banned gathering of more than two people and told that they should not have visitors in their homes.

He said that people should not be going out of their homes except to buy essential things like food and medicine and that too they should do it as little as they can.
