An upset shopper has slammed a supermarket after spotting laundry detergent in the Mother’s Day gifts section.
As the woman, who shared her picture on Facebook, suggested, the discounted detergent somehow managed to find its way to the gifts section for mothers.
“Washing power. In the Mother’s Day section. Are you fu***ng kidding me Coles?” the upset shopper wrote according to The Daily Mail report.
After the photo, in which we can also see other products like fleece rugs, socks, and slippers, went viral, people were quick to point out that sanitary pads also made it among the gifts.
While it is not clear how or when the controversial gifts ended up in the gifts section, it is possible that they were placed there after the Mother’s Day was already over.
Following the backlash received on social media, Coles spokesperson responded and assured customers it wasn’t their intention to offend them.
“Our annual range of Mother’s Day gifts, which include treats like slippers, mugs and chocolates, are popular with our customers and are usually displayed in a special section of our store, often alongside other promotions,” they confirmed in a statement.
“It was not our intention to offend customers with the placement of these products and we’ll ensure we review the layout in our stores in future.”
