The most common myth about diabetes is that you should not eat fruits to keep your blood sugar level a the normal range.
But, this is absolutely incorrect, in fact, according to the American Diabetes Association (ADA), many fruits are really good for those who have diabetes. These fruits are full of vitamins, minerals, and nutrients such as fiber which can improve your blood sugar levels and saves you from getting type II diabetes. Its fiber quality keeps you feel full and stops you from eating unhealthy and overeating.
But there are limitations like any other foods, you should eat these fruits in moderation. Eating them in their natural form is the best option. In addition, avoid eating processed fruits with added sugar.
Berries: If you are blueberries, strawberries, or any other berries lover, this is really good news for you, because berries are diabetes superfood. They are full of fiber, vitamins, and antioxidants. Plus, they are treated as low-GI food. Try berries with layers of fruits with plain nonfat yogurt, this is the tastier dessert or breakfast for diabetic people.
Tart Cherries: These cherries are low-GI foods and good in antioxidants. It helps you fight heart disease and cancer besides diabetes.
Peaches: You should add peaches in your diet if you are diabetic. These fragrant, juicy fruits contain vitamins A and C, potassium, and fiber. You can make delicious smoothies from peaches with low-fat buttermilk, crushed ice, and a touch of cinnamon or ginger, yummy!
Apricots: Its sweet taste is a good option to add in your diabetes diet plan, it is also a good source of fiber, you can make your everyday meal yummier by adding apricots into it. You can also add these to your favorite salad.
Apples: We all know many benefits of this fruit already, they are filled with fiber and vitamin C. If you want to take full benefits of this fruit, do not peel your apples. Their skin is packed with antioxidants which are really good for you in many ways.
Oranges: Everyone loves this juicy fruit, eating just one orange can complete your daily dose of vitamin C. Oranges also help to control blood pressure due to their folate and potassium content, and don’t forget that other citrus fruits, like grapefruit, are also great choices.
Pears: There is one more good option to add to your diabetes diet plan are pears. These are an excellent source of fiber and vitamin K. Moreover, they become more delicious after they are picked, slice up a pear and toss it into your next spinach salad and just enjoy.
Guava: Guava is one of the best snacks, it is a low-GI food. It’s super rich dietary fiber properties helps in constipation and risk of developing type II diabetes. Being a diabetic does not mean that you can not eat delicious fruits. Just make sure you are eating only fresh and diabetes-friendly fruits.
