Dirty Dancing Sequel Confirmed 33 Years After The Classic Movie’s Release


Following weeks of rumors, it has been confirmed that a Dirty Dancing sequel is in the works with Frances ‘Baby’ Houseman actress Jennifer Grey preparing for an epic return.

According to Deadline, the classic movie’s sequel has been confirmed by Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer who revealed that Grey will not only be starring in but also executive producing the new film.

“It will be exactly the kind of romantic, nostalgic movie that the franchise’s fans have been waiting for and that have made it the biggest-selling library title in the company’s history,” Mr. Feltheimer teased.

The original movie was released in 1987 and featured shy vacationist Frances ‘Baby’ Houseman, portrayed by Jennifer Grey, who fell for a handsome dance coach Johnny Castle, played by Patrick Swayze.

Despite the company’s production budget set at just $5 million, the movie managed to reel in nearly $220 million at the box office. Dirty Dancing is also known as the first film ever to make more than one million sales via home video.

Throughout the decades, the movie has remained a popular choice and managed to leave a long-lasting imprint on the movie industry thanks to its timeless love story, Oscar-winning music, and electrifying chemistry between the main characters.

According to the reports, the sequel will be set in the nineties. Sadly, however, Grey won’t be joined by Patrick Swayze due to the actor’s death in 2009 following a battle with pancreatic cancer.
