A shocking video has emerged that shows a 55-year-old mentally disabled man being beaten with a belt by staff at his care home in Georgia.
Joey Cason can be seen being beaten by the staff members at the Total Care facility in the video.
They repeatedly punch him in the face and then one staff member beats him with a belt 30 times at the Total Care facility.
The staff at the Total Care facility can also be seen letting other residents hit him in the video.
The horrifying footage is from 2013 which has been released by Cason’s family’s attorney, Brian Jarrard to raise awareness.
Brian Jarrard said: ‘These are some of our weakest, our most vulnerable citizens. So, it’s important to know and watch and to see when they’re not being cared for appropriately.’
‘I think anybody would find the video despicable. It was heartbreaking. It made me angry to think of individuals who were being paid to care for him were engaged in just despicable abuse.’
Jarrad also told that Cason’s family put him in Total Care in Gordan when they were unable to watch him.
Later, it turned out that multiple patients had been beaten at the care facility.
The facility’s license was revoked by the Georgia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities following an investigation and the staff members involved were charged with battery and abuse/neglect of an elder person.
