A disabled man was found dead in his apartment building complex after getting stabbed 19 times.
30-year-old Eric McBride was a Good Samaritan who loved helping his neighbors in Harlem, New York City, where he lived with his mother in a city-owned housing complex known as the Lincoln Houses.
According to the reports, the young man would often run errands for other community members whereas he would sometimes receive cash tips from neighbors who became his friends.
On Saturday, the body of McBride was discovered in a stairwell of one of the housing project’s buildings, whereas the authorities concluded the man was stabbed 19 times and had his throat cut open, The New York Daily News reported.
While the murder remains under investigation, McBride’s family believes that the 30-year-old was targeted due to his kind and trusting nature.
“It’s shocking that someone did this to someone who was so trusting,” Valerie McBride, Eric’s aunt, expressed in an interview with The Daily News.
“He mattered. He was somebody. It’s important that people know that. He never saw wrong in anyone. He was full of life. He loved his music and dancing.”
According to the reports, McBride’s body was not found in his apartment building but in one of the neighboring buildings in the housing complex.
“We don’t know what happened. They’re not telling us anything. He was a wonderful man. He’d take the shirt off his back for you. There’s nothing he wouldn’t do,” Aaron McBride, the man’s uncle, added.
As of this writing, the police have yet to release details about the case and reveal whether any persons of interest or suspects have been identified.
