Activist and Award-winning filmmaker Abigail Disney has once again spoken out against The Walt Disney Co.
that her father helped in establishing along with Walt. This time, the criticism was aimed at the decision to reopen Disney World during a global pandemic.
The successor of the company said that it was extremely irresponsible of the company to reopen its amusement park while the state of Florida is going through what experts see as the second wave of infections.
In an interview with Yahoo Finance, Disney explained that she has no relationship or position in the company. As the granddaughter of Roy Disney, she merely bears the famous name.
After clearing the fact that she has no official or business relationship with the media conglomerate, Disney said that she feared for the health of both the visitors and workers who are working in Disney World.
Addressing the controversial reopening of the park in Orlando, Florida, Disney said that she finds it “strange” that the company decided to reopen Disney World when anyone from around the world can come visit, potentially spreading the virus.
She shared her concerns and fears with the decision, saying that Disney World is exactly the kind of place where a massive infection can occur due to its nature. Disney added that she does not think it is plausible that every staff and visitor can somehow be protected.
Of course, Disney Co. has introduced various health measures to protect the visitors. From mandating the usage of masks on the facilities to cleansing the resort rooms, the company says that it is trying its best to minimize the risks.
However, the website rather ominously emphasizes that all risks and responsibilities regarding the pandemic lies on the individual customers that decide to visit the park.
She also doubled down on her previous criticisms aiming the studio executives, saying that she does not understand how they go to bed everyday knowing the insecurities that their frontline workers are facing in these times.
When the company announced it will furlough its workers, Disney criticized the decision saying that the executives could have preserved those paychecks by not paying out the stock dividends for this year.
