Wild animals are normally skittish or aggressive when humans encounter them although some tend to run away first and only become aggressive if they feel cornered or feel like their territory is being invaded.
Some animals will be surprisingly friendly, thus paving the way for Instagram-friendly selfies with these beautiful and untamed creatures. But one diver got the shock of his life when one octopus was not only friendly with him but too chummy as well, so much so that the sea creature crawled into the diver’s mouth for a while before it got second thoughts and decided to exit and swim away!

The strange encounter happened as Shane Brown was swimming at a popular diving spot just off Oahu, Hawaii. A tiny octopus swam up to Brown’s face and started crawling all over. Brown didn’t think much of it, assuming that the little guy was just being friendly.
But suddenly, Brown received an impromptu dental check-up when the octopus decided to slip its body between his lips. He decided to start recording the bizarre interaction.
The octopus only spends a few moments inside with only its tentacles visible before it started getting second thoughts and finally crawled out. It then jumped onto the legs of Shane’s diving partner before finally swimming away. After the octopus crawls out of his mouth, Brown smiles for the camera.
Brown said: “At first he was climbing on my face then went in my mouth.
“Maybe he was nervous about something else nearby.
“As soon as he went in, I started recording.
“I was worried he could suction too strong and might hurt the sensitive skin inside my mouth but he was gentle.
“It was only in my mouth for a few seconds.
“I guess he realized it might not be safe if I was a predator.”
Good thing for the little guy, Brown was just there to enjoy himself. As for what it may have found attractive about Brown’s mouth, we’ll never really know although hopefully, Brown passed whatever test the octopus had in mind.
