A lobster diver is going viral after he was reportedly swallowed whole by a giant humpback whale, before being spat out via a jetstream of water.
56-year-old Michael Packard is a renowned lobster diver who has been in the business for nearly 40 years. Moreover, he was recently on a routine dive off alongside the famous coast of Cape Cod when he encountered a massive humpback whale.
Michael explains how he experienced a giant bump, right before everything became pitch black dark. And that’s when he felt that maybe he had been eaten by a shark. However, soon enough, the diver realized it must actually be the mouth of a whale!
The lack of sharp teeth and no pain made him come to that very conclusion and that’s when he slowly but surely started processing what was really going on.
“I was like Oh My God, I am potentially inside of a whale’s mouth and he’s trying to swallow me,” he explained. And that’s when the diver knew that this is it, it was his time to die.
Thinking about his wife and beautiful children, the diver explains how he struggled inside the giant beast’s mouth for a while. But then miraculously, he saw a sigh of relief when a glare of light appeared, and the giant whale began shaking his head from one side to another.
“He just threw me in the air and I landed in the water,” Michael explained. “I felt free and I just floated there for a bit. Today, I simply can’t believe that I am actually here and alive to be able to tell the horror that I experienced.”
The lobster diver believes that he was probably inside the whale’s mouth for nearly 30 seconds. Moreover, he continued to breathe just fine as he still had his breathing apparatus inside of him and that’s a major part of the reason why he’s alive today.
After the gruesome incident, Michael took to his account on Facebook to express his gratitude towards the Provincetown Squad for their dire rescue efforts and immense caring and helpful ordeal throughout his journey to safety.
