Sean Whalen could never forget the day his parents split up.
After a vicious fight, Sean, his brother, and his mother returned to their home to find the locks changed. They banged on the door, begging their father to let them in.
He wouldn’t open the door. They had to get the police to let them in before they could gather their belongings.
From that day forward, Sean’s mother raised him and his brother on her own.
Fast forward to the present – Sean is a single father of three. It’s not an easy situation, but he still tries to be a great dad to his kids.
Sean recently took his son out for dinner at a local Chinese restaurant. Over the course of the meal, Sean felt like he was seeing something familiar in their waitress.

He recognized the look on her face – the struggle of a single mom working to provide for her family.
Sean couldn’t help but feel compassion for the mother. He wanted to help her any way he could.
Here is an excerpt of his story that he posted on Facebook, which went viral.
“Tonight as my son and I sat at this little crappy Chinese joint we love, there was a new waitress. She was absolutely fantastic and kept complimenting my son on his manners.
Over small talk and water refills, I got the sense that this single mom didn’t want to be there, but had to be there and she was doing her best to smile.
It tore my heart out.

I thought of my mom, and I saw the same hustle in this woman that I saw in my mom.
I empathized for her. I felt her pain. I kept thinking of my mom and how difficult it is for a single woman to go from homemaker, to breadwinner.
I can’t even begin to understand what that must be like for some moms.”
According to Sean’s post, he wanted to do something special for this waitress.point 373 |

But I hoped tonight in some way it might put a smile on her face, and she can go home to her babies happier than when she left them.point 248 |
