When life throws you lemons, make lemonade. Or so the saying goes. While that’s often easier said than done, one woman’s “lemonade” actually netted her $100K (£85,000)! But that really wasn’t her intention.

Adele Bradley, 39, from Leeds, had just gone through a divorce and to get her through that stressful time, she decided to dip her hand into renovating homes just to “keep herself busy.” She started renovating her first property and thought it would also be a good idea to document her journey online.

Adele has managed to get over 30,000 followers who eagerly follow her journey and she has even completed two full house renovations in the meantime.

The divorce was a blessing in disguise because it motivated her to redesign properties, something she used to think was not possible because she was living in a new build.

Adele, who is a full-time business consultant, said: “When I and my ex-partner had to sell our new build, I knew the opportunity had arrived for me to do what I wanted.

“It had taken six long months to sort everything out, and I knew I needed to focus my energy elsewhere and not be sat around.

“My 10-year relationship had broken down, and so by January 2018, I was in my first project house, a three-bed semi in Rothwell, Leeds.

“I’d been able to put down a deposit of $45K for the $170K property, and by the time I turned it around, it was worth $225K.

“I’d spent about $25K so walked away with a profit of $30K and by then I was still itching to do more.

“My divorce had helped me see that I needed to be true to myself, and whilst we were still friends and he was supportive, I needed to be fearless and brave.”

Her second project home was purchased in September 2018 for only $228K and was able to market it for $356K after she was done renovating it.

Adele added: “This one I spent a little bit more on, around $52K.

“Yet with the valuation, I’ll be making a property of over $75K.

“It’s been 12 months of solid graft but I like to keep busy, I’ve found something I love.

“My favorite part is where there is no kitchen, no bathroom, and you’re living out of one room.

“Everything’s chaos but the carnage is the best.

“It’s an adventure and I can see progress.

“I’ve had some tradesmen talk down to me, but now that I’m about to hit my third house, I’m getting more and more empowered.

“I’ve had the flooring delivered in the dark, where the delivery driver has refused to move it any further down the drive.

“So I’ve spent the night, in the soaking rain, dragging them one at a time into my garage.

“I’m now looking for my third project, but the right one hasn’t jumped out yet.

Adele is now thinking of branching out into planning permissions and extensions, saying new challenges are a form of education.
