A medic claimed individuals may be passing coronavirus to other people through releasing bodily gasses but experts are not so sure.
According to the experts, the chances of contracting coronavirus through farting is very little and that the disease is primarily transmitted through droplets released from coughing, shaking hands, or touching.
Andy Tagg, an Australian doctor pointed out that passing gas could spread the virus after analyzing several tests taken from affected patients.
He cited tests revealing that coronavirus was present in feces of 55% of patients with coronavirus disease.
Medics have warned previously that farts contain minute poo particles that may spread bacteria.
According to Dr. Tagg, coronavirus can be detected in the feces as well as has been detected in asymptomatic persons up to seventeen days post-exposure.
He also added that as per previous tests, farts have the capacity to spread talcum powder up to long distances.
The medic further said that probably the disease could spread through farting but noted that more evidence is required to confirm it.
However, the Clinical Director and GP of patientaccess.com Dr. Sarah Jarvis said that it is highly unlikely that someone would contract the disease from a patient who has passed gas.
She added that a person would catch the disease if they were in close contact with an affected patient who had sneezed or coughed or by touching a surface that contains the virus.
But she has asked people to maintain toilet hygiene due to the presence of coronavirus in feces, which has been proved.
She noted that there had been reports of the virus being present in feces and also of one out of ten patients getting diarrhea one or two days before they show other symptoms like fever and cough.
This is why, according to her, it is important to be extra-careful and properly sanitize the bathroom if a person has coronavirus symptoms.
The CDC or China had announced that pants would be an effective barrier against the wind that might carry the virus.
