A doctor has passed away only nine days after contracting deadly coronavirus in China.
62-year-old Liang Wudong from Hubei Province contracted the infection on January 16 at Hubei Province Hospital of Integrated Chinese and Western Medicine. He was then moved to the Jinyintan Hospital after two days.
The former ENT doctor complained of feeling flustered and tightening of the chest when he was admitted to the hospital.
According to Wuhan Evening Post, a checkup showed a chest infection. He was placed in quarantine right away and was transferred to Jinyintan Hospital.
It is understood that Dr. Liang had a history of coronary heart disease and heart disease. A medical staff said to local media that the 62-year-old, who had been working at the front line of the deadly virus outbreak, was infected with the virus.
The number of people who died in China from the new virus jumped to 106 with over 3,000 confirmed cases.
U.S. Consulate staffers in Wuhan and other U.S. citizens will be evacuated to California.
Alex Azar, U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary, said: “This is a potentially very serious threat, but at this point Americans should not worry for their own safety. This is a very fast-moving, constantly changing situation.”
He also said that US health officials have offered numerous times to send a team from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to help in China.
The World Health Organization said that China had allowed international experts to go to China ‘as soon as possible’ to better understand the outbreak.
“More cooperation and transparency are the most important steps you can take toward a more effective response,” Azar added.
