Do you remember when the killer clown epidemic swept across the world? People were so scared of Wrinkles the Clown, a character made by an unknown artist in Florida.
A new documentary has just been released and many say that it makes ‘IT Chapter Two’ seem like a Barbie film.
You have probably heard of Wrinkles the clown after he became popular when a grainy black-and-white video that went viral showed him coming out from under a child’s bed.
The horrifying video scared people even more when they started seeing Wrinkles in real life in Naples!
Hundreds of stickers and posters with Wrinkles’ scary face and contact number where posted around, and the documentary also proved that people can still hire him to freak the children out if they are not behaving properly.
The anonymous performer behind the scary figure said to NBC 2: “I’ve got women calling me all the time. Young ones, too, like weird goths with chains and stuff.
“I’ve had enough psycho women in my life already. That’s why I’m divorced. I just want to have fun… Have a good time, make a little extra money on the side. Have a little fun before I die.”
His get-up consists of a red polkadot onesie, rough red lips, and a mask with blacked-out eyes.
But not all of the feedback about the documentary trailer is positive.
One man down the phone shouted: “You’re scaring little people that can’t defend themselves,” while another said: “I’ll take this baseball bat and beat your brains in.”
But it seems Wrinkles is still keeping his gig up even when the movie uncovers many mysteries about him.
Filmmaker Michael Beach Nichols said that the main character of Wrinkles the Clown is not a work of fiction.
“I think that a big part of the primal fear of clowns comes from their traditional access to our children. Here’s a stranger, usually a man, wearing brightly coloured face paint to conceal his identity,” he said.
“We don’t truly know who this person is or what his motivations are. In terms of Hollywood, I feel like there’s something incredibly intriguing and rich about the light/dark duality that exists or that might exist in every clown.”
