Mary Tony is a 98-year-old who’s living by herself in Pennsylvania.
Recently, the Voyager film crew visited Mary to document her day.
As a senior citizen, Mary describes what it is like to live on her own.
“I don’t mind. What am I going to do? Where could I go? I am by myself,” said Mary.
Initially, Mary’s response seemed as though she was content with her living situation.
However, when Mary started to open up to the film crew, she said something that had everyone in tears.
For five days a week, Mary usually goes to the local senior center and hangs out with others. And she really seems to enjoy the time she spends at the center.
However, Mary looks lonely and sad as she prepares to go back to her home.
In fact, in the interview with one of the film crews, Mary says,
“I can’t wait till morning comes so I can go back to the center. . Otherwise, like Saturday and Sunday, there’s nobody here. ”

She also revealed that she struggles every day to try to keep herself busy.
“You know what I do? Don’t laugh. I get junk mail, I strip it.
And after I strip it I cut it up small, put it in a bag and put it for garbage.”
“I have to do something; otherwise I’d go nuts,” said Mary.

Later, the filmmakers invited directors from senior center to Mary’s apartment.
For the workers from the center, this really was a heartbreaking moment.
They knew Mary was living alone, but they had no idea that she was living like this.
Nevertheless, Mary is filled with joy to see these workers at her home. It turned out that it’s been a while since so many people showed up to spend time with her.
“I love you all for coming,” said Mary with teary eyes.
She also added, “It’s made my day, and I’ll never forget it.”
Unfortunately, Mary is not the only one who constantly struggles with loneliness.
In fact, according to the U.S. Census Bureau, 28% of people aged 65 and older lived alone in 2010. And the numbers are growing.
