For a girl, pink is the color to define beauty.
There are plenty of accessories that obviously must be pink as well. Sounds like a little girl’s dream. Well, in this case, everything is very real.
The Internet always surprises us in many ways. It doesn’t necessary that we are talking about brand new things, but it sure is enough to catch the eye and not let go for more than a few moments.
The 1965 Dodge LaFemme car was designed and marketed especially for women. Making the car, Dodge was very attentive about every tiny detail, completing the car with accessories such as a pink umbrella, a pink handbag, and a lipstick holder.
According to Aftermarket Business, “Mrs. Jetson”-style push-button driving was introduced in the 1956 La Femme, in the shape of Chrysler’s futuristic two-speed PowerFlite automatic transmission.
Decades ahead of modern push button-start-cars, it was controlled from a box mounted to the left of the steering wheel.
This feature was marketed as “The Magic Touch of Tomorrow. ”Despite all the high marketing, women didn’t take interest to buy them. Instead, the sad little cars stayed in the showrooms collecting dust.
That didn’t stop them from installing a bright pink carpet though, nor from using lavender paint for the interior not to distance themselves too much from the original feminine design.
The other items such as umbrellas and raincoats stayed as it is in the design. Maybe that contributed to the 1956 model not selling as well. Only 1,500 cars left the showrooms while the rest remained to collect dust.
Chrysler decided not to continue production of this unique car the following year and the La Femme has since been forgotten in automobile history.
This experiment made marketers rethink about gender-based strategies and they eventually stopped relying on it when it comes to such luxurious purchases like cars.
