The manager of Los Angeles Dodgers has passed away at the age of 93.
Tommy Lasorda guided the LA Dodgers to two World Series titles before he became an ambassador for the sports.
The Dodgers shared the heartbreaking news of his death and said that he had a heart attack at his California home.
Lasorda was rushed to a hospital where he died before 11 pm.
The fiery Hall of Fame manager had a history of problems, including a heart attack in 1996. In 2012, he had another heart attack that forced him to use a pacemaker.
The 93-year-old had just returned home Tuesday after staying in the hospital since November 8 because of heart problems.
“Hall of Fame Dodgers’ manager Tommy Lasorda, who spent seven decades in the Dodger organization and became one of the most memorable personalities in baseball history, passed away Thursday night,” his team said in a statement.
“Lasorda suffered a sudden cardiopulmonary arrest at his home at 10:09 pm. He was transported to the hospital with resuscitation in progress. He was pronounced dead at 10:57 pm.”
The statement continued: “Regarded by many as baseball’s most popular ambassador, Lasorda spent 71 seasons in the Dodger organization with Dodger Blue running through his veins.
“He spent the last 14 as special advisor to the chairman.
“Lasorda’s with to see another Dodgers World Championship was fulfilled last October when he traveled to Arlington, Texas to witness the Dodgers 3-1 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays in Game 6 of the World Series.”
Lasora is survived by his wife of 70 years, Jo, and their daughter, Laura, and granddaughter, Emily.
