A rescue dog named Cruella is allergic to humans.
Her owner named Sabrina Sieck couldn’t understand the reason why Cruella got sick every time they cuddle.
Sabrina took her to the vets but couldn’t work out anything. She then arranged an allergy test for Cruella and found out that she was allergic to humans.
Sabrina from Florida said: “I adopted Cruella, a border collie lab mix, in 2014 and soon after realised something wasn’t right.
It started with a mild skin irritation, then it progressed to constant itching and culminated into a nearly hairless puppy.”
“It was a heartbreaking vicious cycle.
According to vets, she was healthy. I tried different diets, baths, and to keep her somewhat comfortable.
She even wore a Lycra body suit. Allergy testing then revealed Cruella’s surprising diagnosis was humans.
Well, human dander. Just like you may be allergic to cats or dogs, cats and dogs can be allergic to you.
I didn’t believe it at first.”
Sabrina also found out that Cruella is also allergic to ragweed, thistle, melaleuca and pine trees, rye, ants, and roaches.
Cruella now takes a special pill to control her symptoms.
Sabrina said: “The next step was immunotherapy. All of her allergens were whipped up into a customised serum designed to desensitise her allergies.
The immunotherapy used proteins of the allergens themselves to slowly teach Cruella’s immune system to tolerate people.”
Cruella can now cuddle with her owner by just taking a pill every day.
Sabrina said: “Today, she is set and can have all the cuddles.
She still takes a pill on the day to day, but simply to manage her condition, just as you would take a Claritin or Zyrtec.”
