A young boy has tragically passed away after getting mauled by neighbors’ dogs while playing at his home in New Jersey.
The incident took place in Carteret, Middlesex County, where a three-year-old boy was playing in the backyard of his home located on East Laurel Street.
While the child was running around, two pit bulls belonging to a neighbor reportedly managed to crawl underneath the fence between the two homes, neighbors say.
After mauling the young boy, the dogs also attacked the mother who was screaming for help in hopes that her neighbor would hear her and call off the dogs, Jeet Devinder revealed in an interview with ABC 7 NY.
Once the police arrived at the scene, both dogs were killed. Meanwhile, the paramedics airlifted the mother and her son to a hospital due to the severity of their injuries.
According to the reports, the child succumbed to his injuries. As of this writing, it is not clear what condition the mother is in but it was revealed that she had suffered severe injuries during the dog attack.
“They are from Pakistan originally and he’s a great family guy,” Jack Beyda, a friend of the boy’s father, told Patch.
“He has three little boys. He’s very, very hardworking. He worked very hard to provide for his family and he saved up enough money to move out here from Brooklyn; he saved up enough to buy this little house.”
As one of the family’s neighbors claimed in an interview with ABC7 NY, the two pit bulls that attacked the child and his mother were problematic in the past.
“Those pit bulls bit people all in this area. I’m aware of certain houses, so I try to walk a different path when I know that they’re on that block,” the source said.
It is currently unclear whether the dogs’ owner is going to face any criminal charges.
