A dog yelped and barked for its life after he was left inside a scorching hot car.
The puppy named Boomer barked at the top of his lungs to get people’s attention in San Jacinto, California as temperatures reached 37C (100F).
Fortunately, a stranger heard the puppy barking, and knowing that the temperatures can be higher inside a car, the Good Samaritan decided to pull the pooch out to safety.
Riverside County Sherriff’s Office shared the incident on Facebook and said the pooch had stopped moving. Thankfully, the stranger who saved Boomer also performed life-saving assistance to keep him alive.
The kind person immediately contacted the police, and Boomer was put in an air-conditioned patrol car. Officers said that the internal temperature of the parked vehicle where Boomer had been was 55C (130F).
The pooch’s owner was later arrested for animal cruelty, and the pup was handed over to the Ramona Humane Society.
A Riverside County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson warned owners not to leave their pets in cars especially during hot days.
“As a reminder, NEVER leave children or pets alone in a vehicle for even a moment. Temperatures inside a closed vehicle can reach more than 120°F within minutes, even with the windows partly opened on a cloudy day,” the spokesperson said.
“Pets, horses and livestock are also susceptible to difficulties from hot weather. Animals do not perspire and rely on panting, wetting down, shade, cool earth and drinking water for cooling.
“Animals cannot explain their needs, so it is up to people to ensures that their needs are met, especially during periods of extreme or prolonged heat.”
